Minutes of Technical Committee Meeting at ICC, Denver, Colorado, 2024

June 12, 2024

  1. Introductions – The TC meeting was started at 9:00 AM EST. The SPCC Chair Prof. Ana Garcia Armada introduced the agenda of the meeting and welcomed all SPCC members to the meeting.
  2. Minutes of GLOBECOM 2023 – The minutes of GLOBECOM 2023 SPCC TC meeting were approved.
  3. SPCC Scope, Objectives and Organization Structure – The Charter and objectives of the TC, structure and P&Ps were presented. Current and past officers were introduced as well.
  4. SPCC Student Contest – TC innovation projects funded by IEEE ComSoc. The content, selection process and arrangement were introduced.
  5. Technical Program Committee Reports
  • SPC Symposium – ICC 2024: Co-chairs for the symposium include Yanjun Pan (University of Arkansas), who was recommended by SPCC. The number of submissions was 112 and the number of accepted papers was 43, with an acceptance rate of 38.4%. There were 7 oral sessions and 1 interactive session.
  • WC Symposium – ICC 2024: Co-chairs for the symposium include Gaojie Chen (University of Surrey), who was recommended by SPCC. The number of submissions was 237 and the number of accepted papers was 94, with an acceptance rate of 39.7%. There were 16 sessions.
  • CT Symposium – ICC 2024: Co-chairs for the symposium include Francisco Javier Lopez-Martinez (University of Granada), who was recommended by SPCC. The number of submissions was 113 and the number of accepted papers was 45 (one later withdrawn), with an acceptance rate of 39.8%. There were 8 oral sessions and 1 interactive session.
  • SPC Symposium – GLOBECOM 2024: Co-chairs for the symposium include Zhijin Qin (Tsinghua University, China), who was recommended by SPCC. The number of submissions was 128.
  • RIS-SAC Symposium – GLOBECOM 2024: Co-chairs for the symposium include Qingqing Wu (Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China), who was recommended by SPCC. The number of submissions was 74.
  • SPC Symposium – ICC 2025: Co-chairs for the symposium include Dimitrie C. Popescu (Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA, USA), who was recommended by SPCC.
  • WC Symposium – ICC 2025: Co-chairs for the symposium include Lin Bai (Beihang University), who was recommended by SPCC.
  • SPC Symposium – GLOBECOM 2025: Co-chairs for the symposium include Hina Tabassum (York University) and Jie Xu (University of Miami, USA), who were recommended by SPCC.

  1. Special Interest Group (SIG) Activity Report

SIG Coordinator: Prof. Fang Fang, Western University, Canada

The following SIGs reported their activity:

  • SIG on Near Field Communications for Next Generation Mobile Networks. Chairs include Cunhua Pan, Southeast University, China and Keshav Singh, National Sun Yat-sen University Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
  • SIG on Signal Processing Techniques in 6G Communication Systems. Chairs include Chongwen Huang, Zhejiang University, China and George Alexandropoulos, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
  1. ComSoc Student Competition

SPCC Representative: Prof. Rui Dinis, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal

Goal is to recognize students who demonstrate the capacity to improve the lives of people through the application of communication technology. A team led by a Student Member or Graduate Student Member of IEEE Communications Society is eligible. Application deadline is mid August.

Updates about standards of 3GPP, ITU, and ETSI were provided.

  1. SPCC TC Newsletter
  • Editor: Dr. Roberto Corvaja.
  • Goal: to share important information to the members, from the officers and among the committees; to have some brief contact approximately every six months; share with the SPCC community the activities, awards, communications. Open to all to contribute.
